Wuthering

Friday 13 April
7:45pm, Stahl Theatre, Oundle

Director Andrea Arnold
Cast Kaya Scodelario, Nicholas Burley, James Howson, Oliver Milburn
(129 mins)

Arnold returns to take on a classic literary story in the form of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. Centred on the exploits of an impoverished young boy named Heathcliff (newcomer Howson) who is adopted by the well-to-do Earnshaw family, the film follows the relationship that blossoms between our protagonist and the family’s youngest daughter Cathy (Scodelario). Widely applauded by critics on its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, this film is set to be one of the year’s must see releases.

I'd say this astonishing adaptation of Wuthering Heights was one of the most impressive costume dramas I've seen in years, except it's so far removed from any normal expectations of the genre that I'd hesitate to call it a costume drama at all.
