Showing Films Worth Seeing...
Made in Dagenham (15)
A dramatisation of the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination when the bosses went a step too far by regrading the women's pay to 'unskilled'. The women's fight for better pay and conditions played a key part in the battle for equal pay nationally and internationally.
Screendaily: "It is the type of film that could have been made by Ealing Studios back in the 1950s (you could just imagine Peter Sellers in a lead role), and with its shrewd balance of top-notch performers, its series of stirring speeches, terrific production design and costumes, and some smart comedy moments, you have a film that hits its marks at pretty much every turn. … Made In Dagenham is a nicely crafted battle of the sexes film that should find a welcoming audience. It is also worth staying for final credits which feature actual television news footage of the real Dagenham women and brief interviews with some of those who took on Ford and won."
